Albert Popwell, also known as Poppy, was an American actor who was born on July 15, 1926, in New York City.

He began his career in the entertainment industry as a professional dancer. In 1953, he made a brief appearance on the big screen as an uncredited reporter in the sports biographical drama "The Joe Louis Story" about the heavyweight boxer Joe Louis.
After that, Popwell disappeared from the industry for ten years.
In 1963, Popwell was offered his first television role in the series "East Side/West Side," but again faced a period of inactivity. It wasn't until 1967, at the age of forty, that he began regularly appearing on TV and in movies, although his television career was much more prolific than his film career.
