    Bennett, the twenty-ninth Governor, was elected in November, , as a Jackson Democrat, and by a majority of only 57 votes. He was a native of Chester County, Pennsylvania, and was born November 11, When but three years of age, he moved with his father, Captain Joseph Bennett, to Wilmington and lived in that city ever after.

    • His father was a sea-faring man sailing a vessel from Wilmington to the West Indies. Governor Bennett's grandmother was Mary Boone, a daughter of the famous Daniel Boone the early Kentucky settler. Both of his parents were members of the Birmingham Friends Meeting, and the Governor always adhered to the faith of the Friends.
